The Indalo Players is an amateur dramatic group based in Spain. Centered at the Kimrick, Mojacar, we produce and present comedies, drama and, of course, the much loved pantomime!
In 2012 we have performed a dramatic production of Oliver, receiving standing ovations, and two comedy one-act plays, Holmes Sweet Holmes and Jekyll in Hiding. In January 2013 we performed Christmas Carol, which amazed our audience with the design and production, bringing them to laughter and to tears. Later that year we also performed a Little Grimley double-bill of comedy, in conjunction with Almanzora Charitable Theatre.
We are always looking for more members to join us, either on or behind the stage, front of house or just to give their support. Become a Friend of the Indalo Players!
A little bit of history.......
The Indalo Players Theatre Group came in to being after a very successful production by Janet Franklin in 1999 of Oh What a Lovely War. This made quite a lot of money and it was decided to form a theatre group using this money as a starter for other productions.
Since then many one act plays, variety shows, one woman shows and Pantomimes have been put on for the enjoyment of the public.
We try to use newcomers for many of our shows to give people a chance of treading the boards that they would not get in some societies.
The first president was Barry Bates, with Doris Wagner as treasurer and Ruth Johnson as she then was as Secretary.
Venues are difficult to find and although we had our first "headquarters" in the Victoria's Studio, this in the end became too expensive, but we do miss having our own space. We moved to the Kimrick and have a store for costumes and props and all the paraphernalia that goes to make up shows. We have improved our new stage, bought new curtains and are always striving to update our equipment. We also donate to charity but have to remember that productions do not get any cheaper to put on, but we try hard to keep seat prices as low as possible. We now have to pay a monthly rent for the use of the area, plus a charge for utilities.
Pantomime is the hardest to get someone to produce, as there is usually such a large cast, and involves dance choreography, music, songs to learn as well as words and all needs determination and commitment from cast and back stage as well as the production team.
We have in the past put on Cinderella,Snow White and the eight dwarves,Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and Puss in Boots.
Plans are being made for the next Panto which will be Babes in the Wood, but wont be ready until New Year 2015.
Although we are an amateur group, we put on as professional a production as we are able, and try to maintain the high standard we have set ourselves.
We are looking for back stage people in particular, but any one interested in any aspect of a production will always be welcome.
We look forward to seeing you at our future shows.
